Athena Joy arrives liberated on Just Like You

There’s something crippling about being impeded by your own mind, a universal feeling explored by Athena Joy on her latest single Just Like You. Over morose keys, and gloomy production, Just Like You goes head to head with defeat and the spiral of feeling like a victim.

Not all hope is lost throughout the track, with Joy delivering a hefty, pummelling chorus with augmented production and vocal delivery.

Of the track, Athena Joy explains that, “I was feeling really sorry for myself in a kind of bitter ironic way – like of course this would happen to me it’s just like you, but instead of continuing to feel like the victim I wanted to feel like I could also be the strength that brought me out of this situation.”

“I feel like the lyrics kind of explore both the vulnerability of what was going on as well as the strength I was needing to find to get through it.” In the four minute track, Joy clinches back her power, with an audacious bridge, and the constant reminder that her vulnerability serving as her largest asset.
