Foley break down their EP ‘On My Conscience’, movie style

New Zealand’s FOLEY celebrate their consistent musical efforts by releasing their debut EP On My Conscience. The duo mobilise the funk undertones through rejoicing in the freedoms and joy of friendships and adulthood, whilst expressing the conundrums in navigating the beginnings of the new phase of life. We challenged the duo to select a movie scene that best aligns with each of the five tracks on the EP.

On My Conscience (the movie)

Midnight
ASH: The Hangover
That moment where they cheers on top of the roof, and Zach Galafinakas makes the epic speech about extending from a one man wolf pack, and then slices his hand open for blood brothers. That scene just invites an epically naughty evening to unfold, and nothing good is coming – which is essentially the whole sentiment of Midnight

Can’t Help the Way
GABE: The Breakfast Club

Probably right after Molly Ringwald gets a makeover and the romance starts blossoming. This song reminds me of that complicated teen movie kind of love, where no one’s sure of what’s right or wrong. It’s also that desperate longing feeling because no one knows if the love of your life is about to move town, move schools – or in this case finish detention.

Party Shit/Misbehaving
ASH: Mean Girls

The moment where Lindsay Lohan walks into that Halloween party dressed really intensely and everyone else is dressed kind of kinky. I can relate to that so hard because I love a good proper dress up, and have probably rocked up too intense many a time. That feeling is basically the whole party shit vibe – feeling too old or out of place at the party and growing out of the group of people you’re around.

Cola
GABE: Wayne’s World

Right after Wayne bumps into Stacey at Stan Mikita’s Donuts, declines the gun rack present and tells her that “we broke up months ago” – powerful stuff right there. Followed up by the trip to the Gasworks for the heavy metal party? Perfect. Those 5 or so minutes of the movie sum up the wacky freedom and happiness of Cola. Life is indeed ‘cola’ without you Stacey.

Homesick
ASH: The Last Song

This movie is the most brutally tacky but also extremely convincing film of all time and there’s so many perfect moments where Miley is looking out the window while driving and pining into the distance. She wants to go back home to her mum but ends up loving being with her dad and it’s all a big sad homesick vibe that we want to marinate in forever.
